Argenx to Acquire Forte Biosciences in $2.2 Billion All-Cash Deal
Belgian-Dutch immunology company argenx has agreed to acquire U.S.-based Forte Biosciences in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $2.2 billion, marking a significant expansion of its autoimmune disease portfolio.
Under the terms of the agreement, argenx will pay $77 per share in cash for Forte Biosciences, giving the biotechnology company an equity value of around $2.2 billion. The acquisition is expected to strengthen argenx's research pipeline by adding FB102, an experimental therapy that has shown encouraging early clinical results in treating autoimmune diseases.
FB102 Strengthens Autoimmune Drug Portfolio
The centerpiece of the acquisition is FB102, a first-in-class anti-CD122 monoclonal antibody designed to target immune pathways linked to autoimmune disorders.
Early-stage studies suggest the therapy could have potential in treating conditions such as vitiligo, a chronic skin disorder that causes loss of pigmentation, and celiac disease, an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten consumption.
Although FB102 remains under clinical development, argenx believes the candidate complements its strategy of building a diversified portfolio focused on immune-mediated diseases.
