Facebook and Instagram Experience Temporary Outages as Thousands Report Service Issues

Meta-owned social media platforms Facebook and Instagram experienced service disruptions on Sunday, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the apps and websites in several regions.

According to outage tracking platform Downdetector, users began reporting issues early Sunday, suggesting intermittent interruptions affecting both services.

Thousands of Users Report Problems

As of 07:46 GMT, Downdetector had recorded 4,808 reports from Facebook users in the United States.

Among those reports, approximately 63% of affected users said they were unable to access the Facebook website, while others experienced login and connectivity issues.

Instagram also saw a significant rise in complaints. By 08:18 GMT, Downdetector had logged 2,829 user reports from the United States, with many users indicating that the mobile application was not functioning normally.

Issues Reported Beyond the United States

The disruption was not limited to U.S. users.

Checks by Reuters indicated that access to both Facebook and Instagram was also intermittent in Singapore, suggesting the outage may have affected multiple regions worldwide.

Some users reported pages failing to load, while others experienced temporary interruptions before regaining access.

Meta Yet to Comment

At the time of reporting, Meta Platforms had not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the disruption.

The company also had not responded to media requests seeking comment on the reported outages.
